Situation: Payconiq, the account-to-account payments provider behind iDEAL (70% Dutch market share), faced high attrition, technical debt, and an outdated architecture under strict regulatory oversight (ISO-27001, DORA).

Task: Stabilize teams, modernize the platform, and ensure compliance while preparing for European expansion.

Action:

• Reduced attrition by building a trust-based, AI-augmented engineering culture.
• Re-certified ISO-27001 and PSD2, introduced modular cloud-native architecture on AWS/Azure/Cloudflare.
• Cleared security and technical debt backlogs, introduced AI-powered productivity tools, and redefined the Agile Way of Working with empowered, self-managed teams.

Result: Platform stability improved to >99.99% uptime; Payconiq now processes 1.8B+ transactions annually, peaking at 450 TPS, fully future-proofed for cross-European rollout under new ownership (EPI).

Situation: DEGIRO, a fast-growing online brokerage with 3M+ clients across 18 EU markets, was acquired by flatex Bank AG and needed to scale its IT organization and technology for exponential growth.

Task: Expand IT capacity, professionalize engineering, and transition from monolithic legacy to microservices while maintaining compliance.

Action:

• Grew IT team from 55 to 250 FTE in 3 years across Amsterdam & Sofia.
• Introduced CI/CD, DevOps, and automation frameworks; launched target architecture for microservices.
• Rolled out new mobile onboarding & KYC, revamped web trading platform, and introduced new regulatory compliance tools.
• Guided the post-acquisition integration into flatexDEGIRO Bank AG.

Result: Client base scaled from 375K to 1.9M, with resilient, cloud-ready systems in place for seamless merger. Way of working aligned with regulatory (COBIT and ISO-27001) expectations.

Situation: Cognizant needed to expand its digital footprint in Europe and build customer-centric digital business units (UX, Mobile, Cloud, Analytics).

Task: Launch and grow the Digital Interactive BU and establish nearshore capabilities for European clients.

Action:

• Built Digital Interactive BU from inception, scaling from 145 to 350 FTE in 7 countries.
• Established a nearshore hub in Valladolid, Spain, scaling from 0 to 120+ FTE mobile engineers in 2.5 years.
• Delivered customer journey innovation for major banks, insurance & pharma (ING, KBC, Credit Suisse, UBS, AXA, NN, Storebrand, Swiss Re, Novartis, AkzoNobel, Shell).
• Led due diligence on European digital acquisitions (Mirabeau, Netcentric, Zone).

Results: Achieved >35% YoY revenue growth, securing Cognizant’s position as a preferred digital transformation partner in regulated finance and insurance.

Situation: Clients across tax and utilities needed to migrate legacy systems to modern, cloud-ready Oracle Fusion platforms.

Task: Deliver large-scale digital transformations and ensure long-term product alignment with Oracle roadmaps.

Action:

• Led “Project Invordering” for the Dutch Tax Authority, migrating mainframe/COBOL to Oracle Fusion with 50+ customizations (team of 128 FTE).
• Oversaw large P&L portfolios (€20–50M) across multiple European utilities.
• Drove SaaS/PaaS adoption across energy & public sector clients (Eesti Energia, EDF, GDF, Fortum).

Result: Delivered mission-critical migrations enabling tax collection and energy distribution at national scale, while strengthening Oracle’s footprint in government and utilities.
